Jack Dromey, MP for Birmingham Erdington and Shadow Minister for Labour, said:
"Tories boast that the economy is going well but their claims don’t ring true in Birmingham. The city is a great place to work and live, but we’ve not been dealt a fair hand from the Government. Average wages have fallen in real terms from £517 to £497 in the West Midlands and unemployment is up 10,000.
Too many Brummies still don’t get a fair days pay for a hard day’s work. Chronic underfunding is putting vital public services at breaking point. Violent crime is up 20 per cent and the West Midlands have seen our police funding cut by five times as much as leafy Tory Surrey. After 7 years of Tory rule, Birmingham’s still at the back of the queue."
