Jack Dromey’s survey of the 47 care homes in Erdington has revealed that serious problems exist locally. Including significant outbreaks in several care homes, staff having to self-isolate or shield, issues with PPE and problems accessing testing.
A number of care homes also raised the supply of food as an issue with Jack, with reports that they are unable to secure delivery slots and are not given priority when shopping in store.

Jack Dromey MP said:
“Care homes are in danger of being the forgotten crisis of the Coronavirus outbreak, so I have contacted every care home in the constituency to hear first-hand how they are coping.
“Sadly, deaths have occurred in local care homes and my sympathies are with their loved ones. My thoughts are also with the care home staff who are giving the very best care in immensely difficult circumstances.
“Unfortunately, the findings of the survey have also revealed Coronavirus taking a heavy toll on staffing levels, inadequate provision of PPE and limited access to testing for care home staff.
“The Government must urgently address these issues.”
